Craig Jelks - Mountain Brook Junior High School Teacher of the Year

Craig Jelks is a distinguished educator seeking to give the people of Alabama better representation in Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University, with additional studies at the University of Oxford.

Representing Alabama is not new to Jelks. He was a U.S. Senate Intern during his undergraduate studies—working for Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee. These experiences deepened his understanding of federal policymaking and the importance of principled leadership. They shaped his commitment to pragmatic solutions that respect Alabama’s values while advancing opportunity for all residents.

Like many Americans, Jelks believes partisan fighting between Democrats and Republicans does little for everyday citizens. For that reason he is running as an Independent, prioritizing progress over party loyalty. His campaign offers voters a clear alternative focused on practical solutions and civic unity.

Why are you running for U.S. Senate?

I’m running for U.S. Senate because I want to help people—plain and simple. No games. No gimmicks. No political talking points. My entire professional career has been dedicated to service: teaching students, supporting families, engaging communities, and advising veterans, working parents, and career changers at Coastal Alabama Community College. As an Independent, I will put policy over political party to deliver practical results for everyday Alabamians. During my college years, I remember working as a U.S. Senate Intern. Now, I’m in the position to return to Capitol Hill as a senator. Life sometimes has a funny way of circling-back. Running as an Independent comes with its own challenges. The road will be difficult. Yet, I’m comforted by Scripture that says, “With God all things are possible.”

Craig Jelks' Family
I have a wife and three daughters. The high price of groceries is real, no matter what our out-of-touch politicians tell us. Working families don’t care about the pre-packaged talking points of Democrats and Republicans. They want a functioning government that helps them.
